HOLIDAY PET HAZARDS
Strange people and unusual food in the house makes for a special pet situation. Here are some tips for the Thanksgiving holiday:
- Holidays can be stressful for your pet especially if lots of strangers are coming over. If your pet needs a tranquilizer to get through the day, let us know.
- There are plenty of foods that are not safe for pets. Here is a short list:
Uncooked bread dough Raisins and grapes Anything sweetened with xylitol chocolate macadamia nuts
- A sudden fatty meal can cause pancreatic inflammation in a dog and hospitalization may be needed.
- Bones and corn cobs are very dangerous if swallowed. Be sure they are not accessible to furry friends.
- Many ornamental flowers are toxic to cats
Keep the phone number for National Animal Poison Control Handy: (1-888-426-4435)
If your pet has a HomeAgain microchip (the kind we implant at our hospital), consultations are free but use 1-888-HOMEAGAIN to connect with them.

LIBRELA IS FINALLY HERE!
Librela (bedinvetmab) is a monthly shot for arthritis pain in dogs (similar to Solensia in cats which has been in the U.S. for a year or so). Librela is not a pain medication in the usual sense. It is a monoclonal antibody against nerve growth factor. This means that it acts on the sensitive nerves that are inappropriately sprouting and creating chronic pain. Responses are typically obvious within 7 days of the first treatment but dogs will require two injections before response can be judged.
Librela is given once a month at our office.
Contact us if you would like to try it for your arthritic dog.
Visit Librela.com for more information.
