NEWS AND PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

LOS ANGELES ISSUES

DOG BREEDING PERMIT MORATORIUM

Why?
Because the shelters are way over 100% capacity and the situation is out of hand. Permits already issued remain in effect but new permits will not be issued until shelters are at 75% capacity or less.

What?
Los Angeles has had mandatory spay/neuter since 2008. If you want to breed a dog, you need a permit as well as a special ownership license plus there are an assortment of rules regarding sales of puppies. Breeding and selling puppies without proper permits will generate a hefty fine.

How to help?
Consider fostering for a rescue group. Every animal that goes to foster reduces the shelter over-population. Want contact information for fostering? Click here to see our affiliated Rescue Groups.

DID YOU KNOW ...

...there is an Assembly Bill (AB 2216) that would prevent landlords from banning pets in rented property?

Imagine a world where a landlord cannot ask if you have pets on an application and cannot charge a monthly fee for pets. Right now, according to the bill's sponsor, only 26% of apartment listings in Los Angeles are pet friendly. Under the new bill, a landlord must show good reason for excluding pets (such as health reasons).

Difficulty in finding housing that accepts pets is a major reason for pet relinquishment to the shelter.
