TASTY FOR HUMANS, DANGEROUS TO PETS
We wish all of you a special holiday this Thanksgiving and want you to know how thankful we are for your trust and for your business. In keeping with those thoughts we want to share a list of toxic foods that have to stay away from the pets as all prepare for Thursday's big feast.

Grapes and Raisins - Cause kidney failure in dogs even in small amounts.

Chocolate - Fat and sugar are one thing, theobromine and caffeine are another. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous the food.

Yeasted Dough - Can expand in a pet's stomach and cause obstruction and distress.

Macadamia Nuts - Cause tremors and hyperthermia in dogs.

Onions and Garlic - Inactivate platelets and damage red blood cells especially in cats.

Xylitol-containing candies/gum/foods - Sugar-free gum and candy frequently contains xylitol and recently some peanut butters began to include xylitol sweeteners. These cause liver damage and hypoglycemia in dogs.
There are lots of details to supervise during the holidays and it is easy to leave a snack out where it is accessible to the pets. Please be extra careful so the holiday can be fun for everyone in the family, even those family members with four legs.

LATEST SYSTEM UPGRADE: THE BAIR HUGGER
| Medical practice is always improving as science and technology make advancements. This month we announce a new warming system for sick and anesthetized patients using forced warm air in a special disposable "air blanket." The Bair Hugger system, commonly used in human hospitals, allows for a mattress of warmed air to cover the patient or be used as bedding under the patient. The warmed air keeps the patient from developing overheated pressure points while still maintaining normal body temperature in the patient's core. This not only provides a dimension of safety for patients who need help staying warm but it also makes for a comfortable recovery when the patient is kept snuggly warm. |

MORE THAN 10% OF YOUR PET'S DAILY CALORIES?

It is surprising how many Calories are in pet treats. A large milk bone biscuit contains around 100 Calories. A Beggin' Strip has 30 Calories. It is easy to keep slipping treats to the family pet and before you know it, several hundred Calories have been added to the daily regimen and you might as well have added an additional entire meal only one made out of high salt, high fat rations.
The same rules go with doctoring up pet food to make it tastier. Lots of people add chicken or cooked ground meat to the kibble for flavor. You don't want to interfere with the balance of the diet so be sure to limit the topper to 10% of meal.
