DID YOU KNOW ...that gradual appetite loss is not a "wait and see" situation?
(Photocredit: Morguefile.com) |
A common scenario involves an older pet who just isn't eating the way he or she used to. A cat might stop eating dry food or a dog might leave some of the food uneaten in the bowl. Often the owner will figure that the problem is minor because the pet is still eating after all. Maybe it's just old age.
In reality, this kind of appetite change is significant and warrants a vet visit and probably some tests. You can wait a couple of days to see if your pet snaps out of it but all too often the owner watches the appetite wax and wane and dwindle until several weeks later the pet has stopped eating completely. If you wait until that happens, the chances are the original disease process is in an advanced state and may or may not be treatable.
FRIENDLY TIP FROM YOUR VET: DON'T WAIT MORE THAN A COUPLE OF DAYS ON THIS ONE.
Also, got a sick pet that won't eat well? Mirataz ear gel is now available for cats and Entyce is available for dogs.
