As common as this disease is for both humans and small animals, a general understanding of this condition is surprisingly lacking in the public. Typically one has heard of this condition, perhaps knows some people afflicted by it and then one day comes to own a pet who loses weight despite an excellent appetite or seems to drink a spectacular amount of water. We have put together this area as a resource for such pet owners and have sought to make it as complete as possible. We welcome suggestions and further questions.
Because the management of diabetes mellitus is substantially different for dogs versus cats, we have divided this center into canine and feline "sub-centers."
