UC Davis Tender Loving Care Program

Ideally an elder owner and elder pet reach their golden years together but sometimes a pet is pre-deceased by the owner and requires a new home. The TLC program allows for placement of such pets with caretakers and treatment at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. An owner can arrange estate planning to cover a pet's needs through this program. For more information visit:

WHAT’S NEW IN OUR WEB SITE LIBRARIES (since last month)

ELBOW HYGROMA
The usual patient for this condition is a large-breed adolescent puppy with a fluctuant swelling on one or both elbows. The point of the elbow is a high pressure area, as any self-defense instructor will tell you. It is easy for a big dog on a hard surface to suffer tissue damage simply from its own weight. Check out the newest page in The Surgery Suite.

SULFADIMETHOXINE
There are numerous members of the sulfonamide antibiotic class but this one is not generally used as broadly as other antibiotics. It is used almost exclusively for only one infection: coccidiosis. Sulfas have a long list of reactions that have been reported (though none are common) but it would be helpful to be familiar with what to watch for. For more details, read this page in The Pharmacy Center.
