The California Veterinary Medical Association
FERAL CAT ALTERING PROGRAM

Feral cats are regarded as pests in many neighborhoods. Research has shown, however, that trapping and removing them only leads to their replacement by new feral cats. A more successful form of management involves trapping, spaying or neutering, and re-release. The California Veterinary Medical Association is sponsoring a program to pay for spaying and neutering of any feral cats that fit this situation. For cats to qualify for this program,

  • Feral cats must not voluntarily accept human handling.

  • Feral cats are to be re-released to their original habitat.

  • The program does not cover
viral testing or vaccinations, but our hospital will provide these services at our low-cost vaccination clinic prices to qualified participants.

For more details about this program, the CVMA has put up its own website:

REVOLUTION IS COMING!

Political statement? No, Revolution is the name of a new flea and parasite control product. This new topical from Pfizer kills fleas, mange mites, ear mites, roundworms, hookworms, and prevents heartworm infection. Is this latest addition to our anti-parasite arsenal for you? Stay tuned for more information.

CONGRATULATIONS
Fabio & Robin Viana

Technician Fabio Viana became a proud father on September 4th when wife Robin delivered Isabella two months early. Isabella weighed in at a mere 4 pounds 4 ounces (the size of an 18 week old kitten), but both mother and daughter are doing well (and Fabio is a bit frazzled).

NEW ON OUR WEB SITE

    PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE

This medication acts as a stimulant to a pet’s sympathetic nervous system, where it promotes “fight or flight” reflexes. It can be used to help control appetite or as a decongestant, but in veterinary medicine it is used almost exclusively for the control of urinary incontinance in the female dog. Find an explanation of how phenylpropanolamine works, it’s uses, side effects, interactions with other drugs and cautions and concerns on this page in the Pharmacy Center.

    FELINE ASTHMA

If your cat needs to open its mouth to breathe or if its abdomen moves excessively as it breathes (and its not purring), then it may be suffering from feline asthma. Here is some information as to the causes and possible treatments on the newest page in The Pet Web Library.
