LAST MONTH FOR FLEA PRODUCT SPECIALSNO FLEAS!!!!!!

The Summer months not only bring fleas; they also bring heavy competition between the three companies manufacturing the new generation flea control products.  When Frontline announced a discount special this Summer, Advantage was compelled to
match it. Program/Sentinel was not far behind.

Be sure to make the most of this marketing competition while it lasts (until August 31, 1998 for all three companies’ products):

  • ADVANTAGE: Buy two boxes of the same size (an 8 month supply) and
receive ONE FREE APPLICATION (your 9th month free).

Advantage has been our most popular flea control product since it was released in 1996 and most people have seen the commercials for it if they have not used it for themselves. For more information, Bayer (its manufacturer) has set up a highly informative website at www.nofleas.com.

  • FRONTLINE: Buy two boxes of any size Frontline (a 6 month supply) and
receive ONE FREE APPLICATION (your 7th month free).

Frontline was the most recently introduced product of the three and most people had already settled into the use of Advantage and Program. Still, Frontline offers the benefit of tick protection, longer activity (one application can be stretched out as long as three months in dogs), and Frontline is completely water-proof for swimming and bathing.

  • PROGRAM: Buy the new six-month program injectable for your cat, and
receive a $6 mail-in REBATE from the manufacturer.   Buy two boxes of
Sentinel 5-in-1 heartworm, flea and parasite tablets (a one-year supply) and
receive a $10 mail-in REBATE.   Buy two boxes of Program Tablets for Dogs
or Liquid for cats (a one-year supply) and receive a $4 mail-in REBATE.

Program is available as tablets, injectable for cats (one shot lasts six months - no fighting with pills or oral liquid), or in combination with a more complete parasite protection as Sentinel.  Advantage and Frontline are both excellent flea killers but, to prevent the emergence of resistent fleas, it is best to use either of those in combination with Program. Novartis has two excellent web sites up at www.programpet.com/program   and   www.programpet.com/sentinel.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
for PRE-VET STUDENTS

This summer, our hospital has formalized it’s volunteer program and our first two pre-vet volunteers, Armaiti May and Stephanie Craver, are one step closer to a career in veterinary medicine. Hospital volunteers receive training manuals, videotapes and a list of skills they must master during their volunteer appointment. There are evening lectures on specialized topics as well, plus they work closely with the regular hospital technicians and doctors to fulfill their pre-veterinary school experience requirements. Through programs such as this one we hope to see our community well represented in future U.C. Davis Veterinary School graduating classes. This program is available all year round. Please contact us if you are interested in applying for a volunteer appointment.  For more information, click here.

MVAMC WELCOMES the
RESCUE ME PET FOUNDATION

Cindy Stone with a gray kittenLast August we welcomed Perfect Pet Rescue, an organization dedicated to the rescue and placement of homeless dogs in
Los Angeles. An average of five dogs a week have been placed
since that time and we continue to work with them to help dogs in need.

The Rescue Me group, founded by Cindy Stone, works primarily with cats and kittens... and they have certainly been busy this kitten season! After having a doctor here at the hospital give a physical examination to each prospective cat adoptee, Rescue Me also sees
to it that any needed medical care is provided and starts the cats or
kittens on their vaccinations. They also provideCindy Stone foster homes for some
of the cats and kittens until a permanent loving home can be found.

If you would like to:

  • Adopt a new pet

  • Temporarily foster a homeless animal

  • Make a tax deductible donation

New product of the month:
PREFERENCE STAIN & ODOR REMOVER

Preference Stain & Odor Remover

Preference instantly removes pet stains and odors from carpets, upholstery and clothing on contact! According to Vibrac, Inc., the maker of the product, Preference also removes iodine, blood, grass, makeup, shoe polish, oil and grease stains. Unlike other products, Preference is not enzyme-based, which could allow an odor to linger... prompting another pet “accident!”

Our staff has found this new product remarkable and we invite you to try it.

$8.50 for a 16-ounce bottle.  ($7.50 with coupon!)

Perfect when there’s a puppy in the house!
