SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: VETSULIN SHORTAGE

As of early November 2009, Intervet/Schering Plough, the manufacturer of vetsulin® insulin has found that some lots have been off specifications. Until this issue has been worked out and consistency has been restored, vetsulin will not be manufactured and a shortage is expected in the U.S. market. While it is unclear if the product that is not within specifications will be problematic (and no recall is in effect), Intervet/Schering Plough is taking this issue very seriously and requests that any changes in previously regulated pets be reported. In the meantime, the recommended alternative for dogs is NPH insulin, which is a human product and is available at most drug stores.
